New Secure Package Delivery Room at Reynolds Place Apartments

Providing secure package delivery options to residents is a complicated matter for apartment building managers and owners. Package delivery volumes increased 37% in the US in 2020, fueled in part by the Covid-19 pandemic, resulting in overall volume that tripled over a 6-year period. Volumes then grew another 6% in 2021. 8 in 10 Americans shop online and 59% of Americans expect a delivery at least once per week..

Meanwhile, an unfortunate parallel trend is taking place: dramatic increases in package theft. 43% of Americans report having been a victim of package theft. Carriers such as Fedex and UPS report that approximately 210 million delivered packages were stolen in 2021, with an average value of $136 per package.

University Property residents are busy, work long hours, and often lead complicated lives. Safe, secure home delivery alternatives are important to them. With this in mind, we’re pleased to announce that construction and implementation is complete on our new package delivery room at Reynolds Place Apartments in Greensboro, NC. Video monitoring is currently being installed, and will complement motion sensor lighting and coded PIN access for residents and package carriers.

Installing secure package delivery solutions in our buildings is not easy. Historic preservation buildings present various limitations. Space may be limited and egress regulations often prevent secure locker installation in hallways or near mailboxes. Equipment and installation is expensive. And competition and lack of coordination among the carriers (such as Amazon, Fedex, UPS and the USPS) adds further complication. Carriers as well as residents can be slow to adapt to changed building access and logistics.

Safe. Clean. Quality. Connected.™ compels us to resolve these challenges and do all that we can to create an enjoyable, stress free residential experience for our residents, consistent with our values. We’re excited to be able to offer this important amenity to our Greensboro residents.
